A Message from Our President

Dear PTA Members,
June 10-13 found me in Memphis, Tennessee attending the 114th Annual National PTA Convention and Exhibition. I was joined by many delegates from Illinois, some representing the Illinois PTA and many that represented local, council and district PTAs from around Illinois.
The delegates were: Peg Staehlin, Colleen Charaska, Lorri Jenkins, Kelly Hemphill, Shawn Johnson, Richard Guzik, Gayle Guzik, Mary Sherrod, Marie Gurie, Isabella Waller, Mable Allen, Barb Quinn, Terry Scott, Angelica Jimenez, Nicole Fentem, Ruth Johnston, Rakaia Barnes, Theopatria Ervin, Sylvia Tarchala, and Matthew Rodriquez. (Click to view the photos.)
During the 1st general session on Friday all of the delegates listed above participated in a legislative call in asking Illinois Congressional members to support HR5211 Family Engagement in Education Act. “This important legislation strengthens parent engagement in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act by providing incentives and support to schools, districts and states for using research-based practices to engage families.”
If you are acquainted with any of the folks above please ask them to share their experiences from convention with your PTA and have them tell you how easy it was to be an advocate for the children of Illinois by making one phone call.
