The Illinois PTA is part of and works with so many co-operating agencies that have wonderful resources, projects, events and information for your local unit and school to participate in and/or share information with.

Because there is so much information, we decided to have a special page on the website to share all the information with you. Hopefully this will make it easier for you to find this important information.

Crime Prevention Resources

·      National Crime Prevention Council’s Be Safe and Sound toolkit helps school groups assess the safety of their facilities, and then walks them through a planning process to fix any problems they find.

  • The Safe School Ambassadors program, a project of Community Matters, provides training and resources to schools to help harness the power of students to change their own environment.
  • The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has created the Power of Parents program to help to dispel the most common safety myths and remind families of the importance of keeping an up-to-date photo of their child.
  • The Stop Bullying Now campaign, from the Department of Health and Human Services, helps students and schools learn about what bullying is, and how to prevent it.  Visit their site to download newsletter articles and reproducible handouts for PTA events.

Podcasts:  Space Place To Go!

No time to think about the wonders of the universe, much less how to explain them in a simple way to your students?  Sign up for the new Space Place Podcast.  Listen when you have time.  In each Podcast, a NASA scientist answers fascinating questions about space and Earth science, with a little technology thrown in.  Go to spaceplace.nasa.gov/en/educators/podcast/ to subscribe.  Or you can listen now on your computer or read the transcripts.  Best of all, you can listen while you go for a walk, looking up at the beautiful night sky and thinking about all that is out there, known and unknown.
