History of the
Illinois PTA Lillian E. Glover Scholarship:
In 1935, the first state scholarship was established, as Illinois
PTA voted to budget $300 annually for a scholarship to be awarded at
the University of Illinois.
Over the years, this single scholarship has evolved to encourage
college-bound high school seniors, entering the field of education
or an education-related field at the college/university of their
choice. The Illinois PTA has provided more than $2,400,000 in
scholarship monies to those seniors.
Currently two education scholarships in each of the 20
Illinois PTA Districts and ten continuing education scholarships are
awarded to help ensure qualified, certified education professionals
from every part of the state will be in elementary and secondary
classrooms in the future.
