Leadership Courses and Workshops
The following Courses and Workshops are offered by the Illinois PTA at no cost to the local PTA units and councisl. Contact your District Director, Field Service Area Representative, or the State PTA Office to make arrangements for someone to come and present the courses. To reach these individuals, telephone numbers and emails can be found in your PTA Yearbook.
PTA Road to Success: Join with other PTA leaders to experience the newly revised and combined Information/Advanced Course. It's a new concept in leadership development. The course includes a primer on organizational structure, bylaws, officer duties, and a touch of parliamentary procedure. You'll be surprised at the knowledge you gain at this course and sharing experiences with other PTA units.
President's Course: The president is the easiest job in the PTA and after you take this course, you'll believe it! Duties of the president will be discussed plus leadership tips and syles to help you succeed in this office.
Council Course: Find out how a council works and how it benefits the local units that become part of a council.
Money Matters: This course will take you through the basics of PTA finances including: how to prepare a budget, conducting an audit, fundraising, using vouchers, the treasurer's report, accountability to members and the government plus pitfalls and ethical dilemmas that a PTA may experience.
Dollar$ and $ense: This workshop will familiarize you with those important questions and answers about the financial responsibilities of your PTA. It includes information on IRS regulations, banking practices, incorporation, Illinois sales tax regulations, working with vendors, budgets, and audits.
ABCs of PTA Finance: This workshop is an in-depth look at Accountability, Budgeting, and Choosing Fundraisers responsibly by defining how PTA officers work together to fulfill their responsibilities, create a budget that promotes the goals you have established, and choosing fundraising activities to accomplish your goals.
PTA and the Law: Rules and regulations — what are they and what do they have to do with our PTA? The workshop will present state and federal requirements, including ADA, banking, funding, IRS, and more information important to all 501(c)(3) organizations.
Three for Me: Three for Me is a PTA program designed to effectively involve parents and families in support of children and their education. Three for Me will help schools, PTAs, parent groups, and other volunteer based organizations reach volunteer hours never thought possible. Learn how to tap into the many talents and skills that parents are happy to offer. With Three for Me, you will find: • Creative ways to connect all families to their child's school and education, • Ideas to strengthen home-school-community partnerships • Resources to motivate parents. Family/School Partnerships: This group of workshops relate to the National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement and will offer tools to parents, teachers, administrators, and the community to promote meaningful parent and family participation in schools.
