March- a
time to celebrate Music in Our Schools, Dr. Seuss’s birthday, St.
Patrick’s Day and March Membership Madness! As we continue to work
towards our goals of membership, leadership and diversity, please
remember to complete applications for PTA awards that include the
President’s March Membership Madness campaign for those PTAs that
recruit 22 new members in March (1 for each of our PTA Districts),
newsletter awards, council awards, environmental concerns awards,
and The Phoebe Apperson Hearst Excellence in Education Partnership
Award.
There
will also be a flurry of activity in Springfield this month, as the
legislature works to complete their tasks. In that vein, please keep
updated on the various bills that are moving through the legislature
and our position.
Recently, we offered testimony to the Senate Education
Appropriations committee.
We have made the painful decision not to speak to specific
line items in the budget as we have in the past, nor support funding
of new programs as we have come to the realization that this usually
results in simply redirecting funds not increasing the size of total
appropriation for our schools.
Basically, we are unable to identify any lines in the budget
that can withstand reduction in order to raise others.
We will
continue to actively lobby for every dollar public education needs to provide every child
in this state with an adequate equitable education, as well as the
associated social service needs that many of our least fortunate
children require.
Please
plan to join us at the 104th Annual Illinois PTA
Convention at the Hilton Lisle/Naperville April 28th –
30th, as we address these priority issues.

A Members Only section is available to PTA
members who belong to a unit in good standing. To receive
password access go to the Member Account page. Click on sign up
and complete the sign up form including entering your local unit
National PTA ID number. After you complete the sign-in process and
receive your password (password is usually emailed to you
within 1 day), you will then be able to access the Members
Only area. Again, to sign up or login (after receiving a password),
just go to the Member Account page. Pages within Members Only
include downloadable files, such as awards and recognition forms and
the PTA Store. Here you will be able to purchase everything from
Life Memberships to PTA pens online. Remember your PTA unit must be in good standing for
you to have access to the Members' Only Section. If your unit
is not in good standing your password will be placed in an inactive
status until your PTA unit becomes a unit in good standing again.
